Reporting to the Respiratory Therapy Manager, the Respiratory Therapist is responsible for assessing and treating
patients with both acute and chronic dysfunction of the cardiopulmonary system by leveraging best practices in patients’
healthcare in alignment with MH and DOH/DHA policies, procedures, guidelines and standards.
Responsibilities
- Deliver comprehensive respiratory therapy services across LTC, PICU, NICU, rehabilitation, and outpatient settings, ensuring safe, evidence-based, patient-centered care.
- Assess, monitor, and manage patients with acute and chronic respiratory conditions, including mechanical ventilation, airway management, oxygen therapy, and emergency respiratory interventions.
- Perform specialized respiratory procedures such as ABG sampling and analysis, tracheostomy care, pulmonary diagnostics, chest physiotherapy, and airway clearance therapies.
- Collaborate closely with physicians, nurses, and the multidisciplinary team to develop, implement, and evaluate individualized treatment plans and rehabilitation goals.
- Recognize and respond to patient deterioration, participate in code blue and emergency situations, and provide advanced airway support when required.Educate patients, families, and caregivers on respiratory conditions, disease management, therapeutic equipment, medications, and treatment plans to promote optimal outcomes.
- Support quality improvement, risk management, regulatory compliance, and continuous service enhancement initiatives while maintaining accurate clinical documentation.
- Contribute to team development through mentoring, training, supervision of junior staff and students, participation in recruitment activities, and ongoing professional development and education.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Respiratory Therapy (or equivalent qualification) with a minimum of 2 years’ post-qualification experience in an acute care, critical care, rehabilitation, or respiratory therapy setting.
- Valid DOH/DHA License (or eligibility), current professional registration, and certifications in BLS, ACLS, and PALS; RPSGT certification is advantageous for sleep medicine services.
- Demonstrated ability to apply evidence-based practice, participate in quality improvement initiatives, audits, and service enhancement programs within a healthcare environment.
- Strong leadership, mentoring, and teamwork skills, with experience supporting staff development, education, orientation, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
- Excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with fluency in English, cultural sensitivity, proficiency in Microsoft Office, and commitment to health, safety, and regulatory compliance standards.
